Playback

For anyone interested in sound and sound recordings

This week's selected recording takes us to the other side of the world where we can listen in on an Australian dawn chorus. This particular example was made by Dr David Lumsdaine in 1989 and comprises a number of different recordings made between 0400-0540.

Read the full blog post by Mark Peter Wright and listen to this wonderful recording from a great field recordist here.

Many thanks to Cheryl Tipp for bringing Playback to my attention via Twitter, and doubly thank you for highlighting David Lumsdaine's field recordings in the BL Sound Archive. I'm a novice in this field but would be interested to learn if there are other composers/musicians with such an interest in field recording of wildlife or nature that you can recommend. I really enjoyed the Pied Butcherbirds at Spiney Creek.

Paul Winter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Winter) is interested in incorporating wildlife / environmental field recordings into his music. His CD 'Prayer for the Wild Things' is a great example of this.
