Hi everyone,As far as I know, there's not a huge amount of printed literature dedicated to the craft of field recording. One of my favourites would have to be Ludwig Koch's 'Memoirs of a Birdman'.…Continue

Hello againJust a quick note on a new file that I have posted. address: recording was captured by placing a hydrophone about 10 inches deep into an "ageing" mound of woood chips. The mound has a high population of millipedes and I assume that most of the sounds were created by them.High amplification. Low and high frequency limitations.JBSee More

Hi JB, I have attached your sounds below to make it easier to compare them (see instructions on Posting sounds on Playback):

Hi JB,

what you have there in the underwater recordings are mostly shrimp, possibly some crayfish. Both species make these sounds all the time & they are mostly made in order to stun passing prey or for location.

here are a few more hydrophone recordings for folks to take a listen to:

Hi JB, I had trouble finding your sounds but eventually did, with these links.

What were the fish doing when making those sounds? For the 'unknown' sounds I would offer: cattle bellowing, a katydid buzzing, a rooster crowing, a bird singing, and something else that almost sounded like a dog barking but probably wasn't. Which one of those sounds was the 'unknown' one?

Amazing sounds! I like the creaking and rattling of the ice and the distant roar is spooky!
