Between the Ears - Saying Goodbye Again and Again

Perhaps this may interest colleagues; on Saturday 30 June, 9.40pm UK time, I'm involved in an edition of BBC Radio 3's 'Between the Ears' about the Chinese poet Xu Zhimo and his famous poem, 'Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again'. It's an impressionistic feature full of Chinese voices speaking Xu's words and reflecting on them, blending with the rippling of the River Cam. It's produced by Andy Cartwright of Soundscape Productions. More information here:…See More

Radio Luxembourg

For anyone interested in radio history, and particularly the non-BBC UK variety, perhaps I can recommend a two-part documentary on BBC Radio 2 about Radio Luxembourg? Part one is broadcast on 31 May at 22.00 UK time, and deals mostly with the pre-war era. The second part is on 7 June at the same time, and covers post-war up to the station's final transmissions to the UK.See More

Poetry, Texas

I must recommend 'Poetry, Texas' by the US-based Danish poet, Pejk Malinovski. It goes out on BBC Radio 4 on Monday 14 May at 16.00 UK. It is a truly remarkable radio feature. It's a Falling Tree production.www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01h6467Best wishes, SeánSee More

Walls of Sound

I just heard that BBC Radio 4 is repeating the Archive on 4 programme I made about Sound Conservation at the British Library, 'Walls of Sound', with Julian May on Saturday 21 April (8.00pm, UK). It was first broadcast in March 2011, and is being rebroadcast now to celebrate the partnership between Radio 4 and the British Library through the recently launched 'Listening Project'.See More

The Poetry of Radio, The Colour of Sound

My new book, The Poetry of Radio, the Colour of Sound is published on Monday 6 February by Routledge. http://www.routledge.com/books/details/9780415604109/ The book explores the idea of radio as a poetic medium, and the imaginative links between poetry and sound. It features material gathered through interviews with poets, radio producers, sound designers, composers and sonic artists.See More

Diego Stocco - Duet for Leaves & Turntable

Recently I bought a turntable to use it for an experiment, but that didn't turn out as I was expecting. Then, I noticed the equally spaced ridges on the plate and got an idea for something else. For about an hour I recorded short musical phrases by…
