For anyone interested in sound and sound recordings
“Hljóðin úr eldhúsinu“ (“Sounds from the Kitchen”) is an Icelandic sound-poetry book by Björg Sveinbjörnsdóttir based on recordings from her grandmother Gudjóna Albertsdóttir from Sudureyri in Súgandafjord in the Westfjords of Iceland. Gudjóna recorded about 60 hours of sounds mostly from her own kitchen, including singing, dialogues, and routine sounds such as phone calls and baking noises. The recordings are set up as poems accompanied by beautiful photographs of everyday life.
This sound-poetry book is an ode to the kitchen as the heart of the home. It is also an ode to Gudjóna, a progressive woman born in 1916, who took an active part in the development and social life of the area.
The sound-book is ready to go into printing and you can choose whether you want a CD with the book or online access to the recordings.
